| Somewhere between a laugh and a tear is where I would place myself as a photographer. I live in Los Angeles and I am influenced by the desert, the sea, and all that is in between. Some say that paradise is a word that cannot be used to describe Los Angeles anymore. Gone is the glamour and the golden shine that was once Hollywood and all the star making power it once had. If that is the case, then some of my portraits represent that thought. My portfolio is not filled with glamorous images of perfect skin and sharply focused beautiful people. Instead, my portfolio shows some blurry images, some faces partly hidden in shadows, and some portraits that reveal pain, anger, and the frustration of youth and the pain of living. I am no longer an adolescent. My life has crossed over East of Eden. Where I was once filled with hope and optimism that every Saturday Night would deliver a special someone. Now, I am not afraid to look in the mirror and think to myself that yes, I remain hopeful and optimistic; but I am also very aware of the real world. I am aware that not all who bring gifts are my friends and that not all who smile are happy. Beauty sometimes has a price and beneath that smile is sometimes a world of pain. In some of my photos I want to explore those themes. What lies beneath is often filled with more truth than the surface. I am not afraid to explore beyond the surface. I hope that you are not afraid of what I will show you. Even though there is nudity in my portfolio, it is not there merely for the sake of showing you an exposed breast or a curvy figure. I stated that I am no longer an adolescent and my inclusion and use of a naked body is not meant to get a sophomoric charge from you. Rather, I want you to think that yes, a nude body is beautiful, but it sometimes represents the counterdictions of life or it can represent the dual nature of man. In one moment the nude form can be artistic and a representation of life and a split second later it does reveal the erotic and the truth about sex that so many of use are afraid to look at. Rather we choose to take a quick glance and try to burn the image in our minds so we can revisit the burned image in the darkness of our bedrooms. So yes, you will see the naked human in both artistic ways and in erotic poses meant to tempt you or perhaps make you wonder about your own sexual nature. I appreciate you stopping by. But I will try to get into your mind, heart, and soul and come away with a unique and perhaps unconventional photograph of you. |
